Why Academic Coaching Matters—Especially for Private School Students

In today’s fast-paced world, coaching has become an essential part of success across nearly every domain. From fitness to career development, health to executive functioning, families now turn to expert coaches to help children and adults alike navigate life’s challenges with purpose and structure. In education, the need for this kind of targeted support has never been greater.

As an experienced educator with a background as a classroom teacher, certified reading specialist, dyslexia interventionist, and executive function coach, I’ve seen firsthand how students thrive when they are supported not just academically, but holistically. This school year, I am excited to bring all of these experiences together in the form of Academic Coaching—a comprehensive support system designed to meet the real-world needs of today’s students, especially those in rigorous private school environments.

What Is Academic Coaching?

Academic Coaching blends content support with executive function skill-building. It’s more than tutoring—it’s helping students build sustainable academic habits, manage their workload, organize their time and materials, and follow through on long-term assignments. By drawing on my multidisciplinary background, I am able to tailor coaching to meet a student’s unique learning profile and school expectations.

This summer, I will be launching Academic Coaching Cohorts and Individual Sessions to help students manage and complete summer assignments while building essential academic strategies that will carry into the 2025–2026 school year.

The Summer Work Solution for Private School Families

If you’ve had a child in private school, you know the scenario: summer reading lists, math packets, essays, and projects looming over what should be a time of rest. For many families, August turns into a scramble—anxiously rushing to complete work before the first day of school.

That’s where Academic Coaching comes in.

This summer, I will be forming small-group cohorts by grade level and school that will meet weekly to complete summer assignments with the support of a teacher and their peers. These sessions will function as:

  • Accountability meetings to keep students on track
  • Specific school-based book clubs to deepen comprehension, make reading engaging, and complete all reading assignments on time
  • Academic support sessions for math packets, writing tasks, and projects
  • Peer communities that encourage motivation and reduce stress

For families looking for more individualized support, one-on-one sessions are also available to provide customized pacing and instruction.
